Venturi Bypass Plunger


Bypass plungers, in the past, have received a bad reputation due to extreme velocities sometimes encountered during operations, resulting in damaged/broken equipment.  As a result, numerous wells in North America have the ability to operate in a continuous state (no shut in required), but are operating as conventional (shut in required).  The Venturi Bypass Plunger is a fast falling, continuous plunger consisting of a hollow core with a floating shift pin arrangement.  This design falls slower than most bypass plungers due to the reduced cross sectional area inside the tool.  They were designed this way to limit extreme fall velocities sometimes encountered to avoid damage to the tool and bottom hole assembly.  The venturi effect in the Bypass Plunger occurs within the shift pin.  The pressure reduction across the pin assists in keeping the pin up, while the plunger travels north, as well as keeping the pin arrangement free of debris.  In addition, the extra wall thickness combined with assembly procedure makes this the most durable Bypass Plunger in the market today.
